What does “L” stand for?
The Church of Scientology was founded by Ron Hubbard, an American writer of science-fiction and fantasy fiction.
Hubbard had a net worth of $100 million when he died in 1986 (factoring in inflation) before his death. As the movement became more controversial in the 60s and 70s, he spent a significant amount of time at sea with an elite quasi-paramilitary group, and then sought refuge in the California desert after a failed attempt to seize a town in Florida.
In the final years of his life, Hubbard spent his time in a luxurious motorhome on a California ranch.
