Rodney Roy Beck, who was born in Burbank, California in 1968, was selected by the Oakland Athletics in the 13th round of the 1986 Major League Baseball draft.
He was signed by the A’s to the San Francisco Giants before his debut in the big league.
On May 6, 1991, he played for the Giants for the first time since his debut in the league.
Beck, a right-handed pitcher, was a member of the Giants until 1997 and then moved to the Chicago Cubs. He then played for the Boston Red Sox from 1999 to 2001 and then the San Diego Padres from 2003 to 2004.
On August 14, 2004, Beck played his final game with the Padres.
At the conclusion of his pro playing career, he had a win-loss record of 38-45 and an earned run average of 3.30. He had 286 saves and struck out 644 batters.
He participated in more than 700 MLB games.
