A former World Boxing Organization champion and American heavyweight boxer, Tommy Morrison, had a net worth of $10,000.
Tommy David Morrison, who was born in Gravette, Arkansas, is a true legend, having lost only three of his 52 professional fights.
Morrison, who is best known for his role in Rocky V, is also known as the Duke due to his admission that he was the grandnephew of John Wayne.
At the age of 13, he used a fake ID to enter fifteen “toughman” contests, where he claimed to have lost one out of 50 fights.
Morrison, an amateur boxer, won the Kansas City Golden Gloves with an amateur record of 222-20.
He began his professional journey in November 1988 by knocking out William Muhammad in the first round in New York City.
During the early part of his professional career, Morrison acted alongside Sylvester Stallone in the movie Rocky V, portraying the character of Tommy Gunne, a Rocky Balboa protege.
In 1991, Morrison’s first WBO title fight was against Ray Mercer, a undefeated fighter who knocked him out in the fifth round.
After two years, Morrison competed against George Foreman, a heavyweight boxing champion, for the WBO title. Although both men were renowned for their punching abilities, Morrison ultimately won the fight.
In October 1993, Morrison was knocked out of the title by Michael Bentt in the first round, which was a significant upset.
In 1995, he suffered his third loss in a match against Lennox Lewis, who was the WBC champion.
Morrison’s HIV-positive diagnosis in 1996 led to his retirement from the profession.
Despite this, he managed to stop Marcus Rhode twice in Japan, where there were no regulations on boxers with HIV participating.
He has been able to secure victories in two more fights, one in 2007 and another in 2008.
Morrison faced yet another challenging period in his life, marked by a plethora of DUI, assault, and drug and weapons convictions.
Morrison passed away on September 1, 2013, at a hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, after being bedridden for more than a year.
