One of the wealthiest women in Brazil is Dorothea Steinbruch, whose fortune was derived from her late husband’s ownership of Companhia Siderurgica Nacional (CSN), one of the largest steel manufacturers in the country.
After the passing of her brother-in-law Eliezer Steinbruch (who also oversaw CSN) in 2008, Dorothea took charge of the company.
Dorothea and her three children have jointly owned the biggest steelmakers in Brazil, with a $9 billion revenue and a $15 billion market capitalization.
Since April 30, 2002, Benjamin Steinbruch has been the chairman and CEO of the company, while Ricardo is the chairman of the family’s other firm, Banco Fibra.
Since 2011, the family’s net worth has decreased by almost 40% due to a decrease in the value of CSN shares.
Forbes ranks the Steinbruch family as the 135th wealthiest family in the world, with a net worth of $5.5 billion.
Dorothea, who is married, has three children and resides in Sao Paolo.
