The co-founder of Hong Leong Group in Malaysia is Quek Leng Chan.
The conglomerate is headed by Quek Leng Chanheads, who receives the largest portion of his net worth from equity stakes.
Leng Chan’s efforts to take the company private in a $1.1 billion deal were unsuccessful as shareholders asked for a higher price for Hong Leong’s investment banking unit. In addition to Guoco, Leng Chan has interests in financial services, property development, and hotels throughout Southeast Asia.
He, along with his Singaporean cousin, Kwek Leng Beng, and Kwek’s family, possess a controlling share in the massive Hong Leong Group.
Quek oversees the group’s operations in Malaysia, while his cousin and fellow billionaire Kwek oversees the operations in Singapore.
Besides everything else, he was also bequeathed a fortune by his affluent father, a heritage that he shared with his two brothers.
