Walter Scott, Jr., who was born in Omaha, Nebraska, earned a degree in Civil Engineering from Colorado State University in the early 1950s.
Following his graduation, he started working for Kiewit Construction, which was later renamed Peter Kiewit Sons’ Inc.
After being elected to the board in 1964, he became the President of the company fifteen years later. Later that year, he was appointed as Chairman.
As a childhood friend of Warren Buffet, he became a member of Berkshire Hathway’s board and accumulated a significant amount of his current wealth when Berkshire Hathaway acquired MidAmerican Energy.
During the late 1990s, Peter Kiewit Sons’ Inc. was divided into two parts, and he currently holds the position of Chairman at Level 3 Communications, while also serving as Chairman Emeritus for the main arm.
