Bob Huggins, who was born in Morgantown, West Virginia, in 1953, played basketball for three seasons at West Virginia University after leaving Ohio University.
He finished his career with the Mountaineers with 800 points.
After failing to make an NBA team, he returned to school to obtain his Master’s degree and started working as a graduate assistant for the basketball team.
At the age of 27, he secured his first head-coaching position at Walsh University and worked as an associate coach at Ohio State.
Walsh’s record of 71-26 was led by Huggins, who also earned two NAIA District 22 Coach of the Year awards.
Huggins, who had a perfect record in his last season, served as an assistant coach at the University of Central Florida before taking on the role of head coach at the University of Akron through a NCAA tournament appearance.
