Prior to being drafted by the Quebec Nordiques in the 1989 National Hockey League Draft, he was a center in Sweden.
Until 1994, Sundin was a player for Quebec, but he also played for the Toronto Maple Leafs from 1994 to 2008.
Sundin’s NHL career came to an end in 2009 when he played for the Vancouver Canucks, appearing in the NHL All-Star Game nine times and being twice named to the NHL Second All-Star Team.
