The beginning of Rod Brind’Amour’s professional journey was in Ottawa, Canada, where he was born in 1970.
In the 1988 Entry Draft of the NHL, Louis Blues selected him as the ninth overall.
After attending Michigan State University for college hockey, Brind’Amour joined the Blues in 1989 during the team’s postseason run.
His first NHL goal resulted in a goal during the playoffs.
Brind’Amour was traded to the Philadelphia Flyers the following year, where he became a fan favorite and alternate captain.
