At the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games in team volleyball, the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games in team volleyball, and the 1996 Atlanta Olympic games in beach volleyball, Kiraly was awarded Olympic gold medals.
He won a gold medal at the 1986 France World Championships and a silver medal at the 1986 Moscow Goodwill Games. Kiraly is the only volleyball player to have won gold medals in both indoor and beach volleyball at the Olympics.
The Volleyball Hall of Fame inducted him in 2001.
