Dino De Laurentiis, an Italian-American film producer who won an Oscar and had a fortune of $120 million, passed away in 2010.
De Laurentiis established Dino de Laurentiis Cinematografica in 1946, which produced over 180 films, including “La Strada” (1954), “War and Peace” (1956), “The Bible: In the Beginning” (1966), “King Kong” (1976), “Conan the Barbarian” (1982), “Dune” (1984), and “Hannibal” (2001).
“Dead Zone” (1983), “Firestarter” (1984), “Maximum Overdrive” (1985), “Silver Bullet” (1985), “Cat’s Eye” (1985), and “Sometimes They Come Back” (1990) were also produced by Dino. De Laurentiis was most famous for producing the 1968 miniseries “Odissea,” as well as the 1995 TV movies “Solomon & Sheba” and “Slave of Dreams.”
DDL Foodshow, an Italian specialty foods store owned and operated by Dino, had two New York branch and one Los Angeles branch.
November 2010 marked the death of De Laurentiis at the age of 91.
