Vybz Kartel, a Jamaican dancehall and reggae artist, is worth $1 million dollars.
Vybz Kartel, a songwriter, businessman and convicted murderer, was born Adidja Azim Palmer in Kingston, Jamaica on January 7, 1976.
Love Fat Woman, his debut album under the name Adi Banton, marked the beginning of his entertainment career as a teenager.
Kartel’s rise to fame in Jamaica in 2003 was triggered by a series of hits, which culminated in a pre-planned on-stage confrontation with Ninjaman at the annual dancehall festival ‘Sting’ in his hometown of Portmore, Jamaica. Afterward, Kartel and Ninjaman made a public apology to the event’s organizers, and subsequently faced backlash for an accusation of ‘bleaching’ his skin with a special soap opera.
Kartel was banned from the airwaves in 2011 by the National Communications Network of Guyana, who claimed that his music had a negative impact on the entertainment industry due to “obscene lyrics” and “nothing positive.”
Another controversy arose whenKartel was arrested in Jamaica in September 2011 for felony charges related to marijuana possession. He was later charged with the murder of Barrington Burton, a Jamaican businessman, as well as conspiracy to murder and illegal possession of a firearm.
According to reports, Kartel was given a life sentence in prison on April 3, 2014, but he will not be eligible for parole after 35 years.
