With a net worth of $1.8 billion, Ajay Piramal is an Indian entrepreneur.
His family’s textile enterprise was the starting point for his career, which eventually grew into a $2 billion empire.
Piramal, who holds a BA and an MBA from Bombay University, is the current Chairman of Piramal Group, a multi-national organization that operates in around 100 countries.
In 1988, he acquired an Australian multinational conglomerate, Nicholas Laboratories, which is now among the top 10 pharmaceutical companies with a range of overseas assets, including Rhone Poulens, Hoechst Research Centre, Roche and ICI in India.
Piramel’s fortune was boosted in 2010 when he sold a significant portion of Piramal Healthcare’s domestic business to Abbott Labs for $3.8 million. He has since redirected his wealth into a multifaceted company with interests in finance, real estate, packing, glass manufacturing, and pharmaceuticals.
Furthermore, the first colossal shopping mall in India, Crossroads, was constructed using three Piramal factories.
Paramel was among the pioneers to construct a structured work environment in Lower Parel and to erect landmarks such as Ashok Towers.
