In 1994, he co-founded Sodrugestvo, a group of companies, and was later appointed as Chairman. Lutsenko, a former Soviet army officer, became a billionaire after establishing the agro-industrial Sodrugestvo Group, along with his wife Natalia.
The group specializes in the import of raw products from Brazil and Russia, and has terminals in Kaliningrad (Baltic Sea) and railcar stock and processing plants in Russia, Brazil and Denmark.
The acquisition of a 10% stake in the company by Mitsui & Co. occurred in January 2012.
