Alisher Usmanov, a Uzbek Russian businessman, is worth $18 billion.
Mining, lumber, and other investments have contributed to Usmanov’s net worth.
The Russian industrial conglomerate Metalloinvest, which he founded to manage Gazprom’s metals interests, has him as the majority shareholder.
Alisher’s business portfolio includes precious metals, iron ore, steel, natural gas, and media companies, among other things.
From 2000 to 2014, he was the chairman of Gazprom Investholding, the subsidiary that holds investments in Gazprom, Russia’s state-owned energy corporation.
Gazprom Investholding was responsible for managing some of the most intricate and sensitive financial transactions, according to Usmanov, who was a significant shareholder in London’s Arsenal Football Club until he sold his 30% stake for almost $700 million in 2018. Alisher is the only owner of USM Holdings, a global conglomerate that has major investments in the mining and steel sectors.
The company’s investments include technology, oil and gas, media, and pharmaceuticals.
The year 2014 saw him selling 12% of the company.
He purchased Russian mobile phone operator MegaFon for $3 billion in 2012 and then pledged 56.1% to Sberbank as collateral for a line of credit.
According to “Forbes,” Alisher has a net worth of $13.2 billion and is listed at #147 on the “Real-time Billionaires List.” He was also ranked #99 on the “World’s Billionaires List” in 2021. After Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, the European Union (EU) blacklisted Usmanov and imposed a travel ban.
Alisher has been described by the “Official Journal of the European Union” as a “pro-Kremlin oligarch with close ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin.”
