With a net worth of $2.1 billion, Charles Bronfman is a Canadian entrepreneur and philanthropist.
After their father, Sam, passed away in 1971, he and his brother, Edgar Bronfman Sr., inherited the Seagram Company Ltd.
With its roots in Montreal, Quebec, Seagram has transformed from a small liquor company to a genuine spirit empire, becoming the world’s largest distillery of alcoholic beverages.
Charles was born on June 27, 1931, in Montreal, Canada, and graduated from McGill University with a Bachelor’s degree before embarking on his professional career.
He was primarily involved in the management of the family business, but he also engaged in occasional engagements and projects. Especially after the company’s acquisition by Vivendi for $34 billion in 2000, the Bronfman family devoted more attention to other activities, including philanthropic work.
Between 1997 and 2002, Bronfman held the position of Chairman of the Board at Koor Industries Ltd., a major investment holding company.
After signing the Giving Pledge made by Warren Buffett and Bill Gates, Mr.
Bronfman has donated or committed $350 million to various charities, including the foundation established by him and his wife, Andrea & Charles Bronfman Philanthropies.
Additionally, he has authored two books on the subject of charity and the philosophy of giving.
