Charles Wyly, an American philanthropist, businessman, and entrepreneur, was worth $1 billion.
Along with his younger brother Samuel Wyly, he became a member of the billionaire club and engaged in business ventures.
The two individuals were commonly referred to as the “Wyly brothers”.
Charles Wyly partnered with his brother, Samuel, to establish and manage a startup computer software company called University Computing. They then proceeded to lead multiple other businesses, including Michaels Stores Inc., until they were sold in 2006.
Charles Wyly was a significant supporter of Republican causes and Dallas-based art projects, in addition to the above.
A $20 million contribution towards the development of a performing arts center in Dallas is included in the latter.
