Carlyle group, a global private equity firm, acquired a 63.6% stake in the company for $420 million in late 2009.
Apart from CVC, Paulus founded GJP Hotels and Resorts, which has a portfolio of more than 15 hotels and resorts in Brazil, and is also exploring the possibility of constructing and retaining hotels in close proximity to airports in Brazil.
The country is expected to attract a large number of foreign visitors following the hosting of the 2014 World Soccer Cup and 2016 Summer Olympics.
