The Cult’s guitarist, Billy Duffy, is an English guitarist and songwriter who has a net worth of $12 million.
In Manchester, England, Billy Duffy was born on May 2, 1961, and he began learning guitar at the age of fourteen.
Duffy’s early involvement in punk bands dates back to the late 1970s, but his early years were marked by his introduction of Johnny Marr (The Smiths) to the guitar and Morrissey’s singing adolescence with Duffy in The Nosebleeds.
Ian Astbury, the lead singer of Southern Death Cult, met him and was impressed by Duffy’s playing. Astbury left the band and formed a new band with Astbury.
Taking advantage of the Southern Death Cult’s triumph, they referred to themselves as the Death Cult.
In 1984, the band abandoned their initial popularity and opted for a shortened version of their music, The Cult, after a few successful singles.
Astbury and Duffy moved to Los Angeles together in 1988, and they both continue to live there today.
“Sonic Temple” was recorded by the two writing partners and Jamie Stewart, a longtime bassist, who also explored stadium rock.
Billy’s purchase of a Los Angeles home above the Sunset Strip for $2.6 million in 2016 helped the Cult gain a larger, mainstream following.
The home was put on the market for $3.5 million by him in March 2021.
