Bobby Keys’ career saw him feature on albums for a variety of notable musicians, including the Rolling Stones, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Who, Harry Nilsson, Delaney, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, and Joe Cocker.
He gained fame as the lead saxophone player for the Rolling Stones.
Keys was born in Slaton, Texas in 1943 and began his touring career at the age of fifteen with Bobby Vee and Buddy Holly. He played with the Rolling Stones from 1969 to 1974 and all albums until his death in 1980.
His reputation stems from his involvement as a musician and his friendship with Keith Richards, who was born on the same day.
Starting in 1958, he worked as a session musician and entertained musical luminaries by jamming with them on his recent Glastonbury Festival tour with the Rolling Stones in 2013.
