Justin Vernon, who is also known as Justin DeYarmond Edison Vernon, was born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and studied Religious and Women’s Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire before pursuing a career in music.
During his time in Wisconsin, he formed two bands that achieved significant local success.

While Vernon and the rest of the band were in North Carolina, they formed a new group called Megafauna and went back to Wisconsin.

“For Emma, Forever Ago”, the band’s debut album, was recorded in a cabin in the woods of Wisconsin and released independently in 2007.
Bon Iver, their second album, became a sensation and was awarded both the Best New Artist and Best Alternative Music Album at the 2012 Grammy Awards.
