A Nigerian footballer named John Obi Mikel has a net worth of $45 million and pays a salary of approximately $45 million.
Chelsea’s midfielder, John Obi Mikel, was born in Jos, Nigeria, in 1987 and currently plays for the Nigerian national team.
At the age of 12, Mikel was chosen for the Pepsi Football Academy and went on to represent Nigeria at the FIFA Under-17 World Championships.
During his time there, he guided Nigeria to the finals and was recognized as the second best player in the tournament.
It was announced in 2005 that he would join Manchester United, but Chelsea made a similar announcement a few days later, confirming that they had reached a deal with Mikel Lowrie.
After attending a press conference with Manchester United, Mikel eventually signed a contract with the European club. However, he allegedly went missing during a match in the stands, with Manchester United accusing Chelsea of abducting the footballer.
It was uncovered that Mikel had gone to London, where he alleged that Manchester United had made him sign his contract without his agent, and that he had expressed his desire to play for Chelsea.
Mikel was finally signed by Mikel’s current club, Lyn Oslo, from Chelsea almost a year later in 2006.
Several times, Mikel has been recognized as the African Young Player of the Year in 2005 and 2006 and the Chelsea Young Player of the Year in 2007 and 2008.
The Nigerian national team for the 2014 FIFA World Cup included him.
