John William Meriwether, who was born in Chicago, Illinois on August 10, 1947, attended Northwestern University and the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business.
Upon completing his studies, he moved to New York and began his career as a bond trader at Saloman Brothers, where he went on to become the head of domestic fixed income arbitrage. He then founded Long-Term Capital Management hedge fund in Greenwich, Connecticut in 1994.
In 1998, the company disintegrated, leading to the publication of several books about its downfall.
JM Advisors Management was the name of his latest hedge fund attempt, which he launched in 2010.
Several Thoroughbreds are owned by Meriwether, who also serves on the Board of Directors for the New York Racing Association.
